The housing shortage, and the lack of domestic help available
in the homes continue to be a serious problem as it of necessity limits
the number of patients referred to the Municipal Midwives.
PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS.
Memorandum 266/T.
Maintenance allowances to patients suffering from pulmonary
tuberculosis receiving treatment from the Tuberculosis and Chest
Clinic, and Institutional treatment commenced on 1.7.43. From
that date to 31.12.44, 140 patients received such allowances in
accordance with the terms of the above Memorandum.
TUBERCULOSIS AND CHEST CLINIC.
Notifications.
The number of primary notifications of all forms of tuberculosis
during the year 1944 was 198, as compared with 264 for 1943. Of
the primary notifications of pulmonary tuberculosis, in 13.0 per cent.
tubercle bacilli were found in the sputum.
Statistical.
The total number of notified cases on the register of the Clinic
on 31st December, 1944, was 979 (pulmonary and non-pulmonary) or
10.7 per 1,000 estimated population, as opposed to 949 or 10.2 per
1,000 population in the previous year.
