INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL-,
Dr, Palmer's observations are contained, in the following-report
upon the work of the hospital
PREFACE.
The number of cases admitted each year to the Isolation Ward,
Harts Sanatorium, continues to increase. Daring 1943, 354 patients
were admitted as compared with 293 in the preceding year.
The number of deaths was 2, giving a mortality rate of 0,56$.
It is very satisfactory to note that no deaths occurred from Diphtheria
The Incidence of Scabies and Impetigo still appears to be on the
increase, and many cases of Infectious Disease are complicated by these
skin complaints.
For the second successive year there were no cases of Enteric
Fever, and there were only two cases of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis, both
of which completely recovered with Sulphapyridine treatment.
The year produced an increase in the number of Whooping Cough
and Measles cases admitted to Hospital,
At times the existing accommodation was very heavily taxed, and
it is hoped that more beds will be available in the future,
