Inspection and Supervision of Food.
(a) Milk Supply.
Graded Milk.
The licenses in force on 31st December 1942 were as follows:-
Tuberculin Tested Milk
Bottling Establishment Licence

Pasteurised Milk

Dealers' Licences 17
Supplementary Licences 3
The Council decided in December 1936 to change no fees in respect
of licences granted under the Milk(Special Designations)Order, 1936.
(b)Meat and Other Foods.
(1) Meat Inspection. The Sanitary Inspectors made 341 visits to the
calauzhterhouse for the purpose of carrying out post mortem inspection of animals slaughtered.

Periodically visits are made to butchers' shops, market stalls and
moat vehicles.
(2) Food Premises.
The number of inspections made of food premises included 10
dairies 4 of bakehouses, and 410 of other premises.
(3) Slaughterhouses.
In respect of two premises in the Borough the Council refused
to renew the licence to use such premises as slaughterhouses .In one
case the Court adjourned the hearing sine die with leave to restore
the case if the Council refused to grant the licence in respect of
the premises which had suffered war damage and which necessitated
rebuilding. The other appeal was adjourned subject to the business
then being carried on at the slaughterhouse (slaughtering of horses
for human consumption) being discontinued on and after 31st December,
1942. These latter premises were the subject of a further application
for a licence in the succeeding year.
(4) Bacteriological Samples.
33 samples were submitted for bacteriological examination during
the year including 7 of ice cream, 19 of milk, 2 of domestic water,
and 5 of swimming bath water.
(5) Other Foods.
Inspection of other foods resulted in the condemnation for
human consumption of 13,242 tins including 419 tins of meat and meat
products, 1708 tins of fruit, 374 tins of Vegetables, 205 tins of
fish 10,355 tins of milk and 181 tins or packages of other foods.
