VBNEREAL DISEASES.
The same facilities are available as in recent years for the
treatment of these diseases, and from the official tables supplied
by the London County Council the following figures (East Ham
figures are not given separately) are abstracted:-
Figures for preceding year are shown in brackets.
The number of new patients dealt witn oy the Hospitals and
Hostels in the scheme was 17,106 (16,042) of whom 2,286(2,154)
were suffering from syphilis, 4,526 (5,287) gonorrhoea, and 157
(217) soft chancre, whilst 10,137 (8,384) were diagnosed as not
suffering from venereal disease.
Attendance of all patients totalled 378,423 (347,446) and
the number of in-patient days of treatment was 16,019(14,647)
Pathological examinations in connection with, the clinics
totalled 164,459(135,152) and 61,897 (34,981) examinations were
made for private practitioners.
As regards the hostels the number of patients accommodated
from the areas of the participating authorities was 164(132)'the
aggregate number of days in residence being 15,929 (14,604)
RUNWELL MENTAL HOSPITAL.
Mental patients are now accommodated in Runwell Mental Hospital,
Essex, the Institution belonging to the County Boroughs of East Ham
and Southend-on-Rea.
Statistics and other information relating to the Hospital are
contained in the Annual Report for 1942.
EAST HAM MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
The work of the Hospital and Public Health Department becomes
more olosely associated each year, and I ackncv-rlcdgo with gratitude
the help of the Committee and honorary medical staff.
