* PART II.
PERCENTAGE OF CHILD POPULATION IMMUNISED.
It is impossible to give even an estimated child population as at
31.12.40.
The only figures that can be shown are as at 31.3.40:-
(Age under 5 years 7,325.
Age 5 years but under 15 years 10,496.)
During the continuous air-raids on East Ham in September, October
November and December, 1940, many children were evacuated: some had,
however, returned to East Ham before the end of December. In fact, one
can almost say that there was a continual ebb and flow, which makes it
very difficult to give an estimate approximating to correct numbers.
Having regard to the correct figures given for 30.9.41. you may
be able to arrive at some basis for calculation.
Therefore, seeing that it is impossible to give the estimated
population, it is also impossible to give the estimated percentage of
child population under (a) and (b).
With regard to the figures as at 30.9.41. these are approximately
one-third of our normal peace-time population. It is therefore impracticable
to give any percentages in the appropriate columns under (a)and
(b).
The total number of children immunised against diphtheria between
27.9.39. the date diphtheria prevention commenced in this area, and
31.12.40. is 6,680.
