Local Government Act, 1929.
A brief synopsis of the Council's administrative schcme as
approved by the Ministry of Health was set out in the 1930 Report,
and amendments to the same in later reports.
Public Assistance Domiciliary Medical Service.
The "open-choice" scheme of medical relief was adopted by
the Council in 1933 and was described in my report for the year
1934. It has operated throughout the whole of the borough
with the exception of a small area beyond the King George V
and Royal Albert Docks in North Woolwich.
Slight amendments to the regulations were made recently
after consultation "with the medical practitioners of the district.
The scheme has proved highly successful, is immensely
popular with all concerned, and is administered with the minimum
of trouble.
The Council have given directions that upon the retirement
of Dr. Brews, District Medical Officer for the North Woolwich
area, on 31/12/38, the scheme shall be extended to the whole of
the borough.
