Infectious Diseases.
An increased number of notifications in respect of persons
suffering from Scarlet Fever and Diphtheria was received during
the year. Many cases of the latter illness were late in coming
under treatment, and in some infection appeared extremely virulent
and less responsive to curative measures, thus approximating the
"Gravis" type.
The following article furnished by me appeared in editions of
the local press and I am indebted to the Editors of the "Stratford
Express," "East Ham Echo "and the "Citizen" for the
beneficial results of this publication.

The Importance of Early Diagnosis and Treatment.
Diphtheria is a dangerous infectious disease that gives rise
to few outward signs at the commencement of the illness, yet it
