and payment is made to the hospital authorities on a " per
capita " grant basis, in respect of East Ham scholars sent to the
hospital from the School Medical Department.
A further step towards more complete co-ordination was
reached by the agreement, between the Education Committee and
the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee, that diseases of the
ear, nose and throat, occuring in infants and children under school
age, should be treated at the School Aural Clinic.

In November, 1929, the Authority entered into an agreement
with Queen Mary's Hospital, Stratford, in respect of a complete
scheme for the treatment of orthopaedic cases.
The treatment at the hospital includes operative, electrical
and massage treatment, remedial exercises and the supply of
surgical appliances, and is carried out under the direction of an
orthopaedic surgeon.
Payment is made to the Hospital Authorities on a per capita
contribution basis in respect of East Ham scholars sent to the
Hospital through the School Medical Service.
All children referred by the Authority's Medical Officers to
the Hospital for treatment are kept under observation at frequent
intervals at one or other of the School Clinics, in order that the
progress of the cases may be watched and recorded, and to ensure
that treatment has not been allowed to lapse. If at any time such
a case fails to attend the School Clinic it automatically becomes
included in the following-up list of one of the School Nurses.
During the year 1934, 11 out-patients have received treatment,
the total out-patient attendances being 158.
The highly satisfactory results achieved are due, in no small
measure, to the efforts and keen co-operation of the responsible
Orthopaedic Surgeon.
