The ratio of non-notified tuberculosis deaths to total tuberculosis
deaths for the year was 1-6.
Maternity and Child Welfare.
The following Special Report was submitted to the Council
in December in accordance with Circular 1433 on Maternal Mortality
issued by the Minister of Health.
The Minister referred to Circular 1167 of the 11th December,
1930, and the Memorandum accompaying it—156/M.C.W.—
dealing with this subject.
Circular 1167 draws attention to the fact that the Interim
Report of the Departmental Committee on Maternal Mortality
and Morbidity stresses two essential measures in securing a
reduction in maternal deaths —
(1) General and sustained efforts to enlighten the women of
the country as to the importance of ante-natal
supervision,
