(a) Uncleanliness.
The School Nurses have carried out 3 cleanliness surveys
of all the children in the elementary schools during the year 1931.
During the year the School Nurses made 48,607 examinations,
as compared with 51,607 in 1930. Of this number 273
children showed vermin and many nits in the hair (510 in 1930),
whilst 1,438 children showed only a few nits (1,844 in 1930).
Comparative table :—
Year | Number Examined | Number with Nits | Number with Head Vermin | No- of Exclusion Certificates |
---|---|---|---|---|
1927 | 58,588 | 2,140 | 479 | 50 |
1928 | 55,351 | 2,020 | 387 | 40 |
1929 | 53,009 | 1,866 | 426 | 26 |
1930 | 51,607 | 1,844 | 510 | 60 |
1931 | 48,607 | 1,438 | 273 | 58 |
The decrease in the number of children examined was
occasioned by depletion of staff owing to the illness and transfer
of members of the School Nursing Staff.
Only two cleanliness surveys were possible in the following
school departments—Lathom Girls, Lathom Boys, Winsor Senior
and the Monega Myope Class.
