Births.
The number of births has slightly risen, the number for 1930
being 2,264, as compared with 2,169 for 1929. Since 1914 the
rate has been gradually decreasing as will be seen from the birth
and death-rate graph, the rate in 1914 being 24.4, whereas in
1930 it had dropped to 15.3 per 1,000 of the population.
Infantile Mortality.
The infantile mortality rate is the lowest yet recorded for
East Ham, being only 49 per 1,000 births, the rate for England
and Wales being 60, London 59, and the 107 County Boroughs
and Great Towns, 64.
