REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
For the year 1629.
SUMMARY OF NURSING ARRANGEMENTS, HOSPITAL
AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS AVAILABLE
FOR THE DISTRICT.
Professional Nursing in the Home.
(a) General.—Excellent work is carried out by the Nurses
attached to the branch Home in Katherine Road of the Plaistow
Maternity Hospital to which the Local Authority make no grant.
. During the year 1929, 41,771 visits were made by the Nurses
to 1,146 sick cases.
(b) For Infectious diseases, e.g., Measles or treatment of
Scarlet Fever, no provision is made.
Midwives.
No Midwives are subsidised by the Authority, but a large
amount of Midwifery work is undertaken by 36 Nurses of the
Plaistow Maternity Hospital, in addition to 9 midwives who have
privafe practice in the Borough, 5 practising in the North
Woolwich area attached to Sir Henry Tate's Home, and 2 attached
to a private Nursing Home.
