House-to-House Inspection.
As was stated in the report under this head last year, special
attention again has been given to this important branch of the
Sanitary Inspectors' work. As shown in the above table, 4,742
house-to-house visits were made during the year 1929, as compared
with 2,346 for the previous year, and a total of 12,667
visits for all purposes, as compared with 8,096 for the former
period. At 84 per cent. of the house-to-house visits sanitary
defects were found. This high percentage proves the necessity
for this type of inspection; it must, however, be remembered that
only the older and poorer class of property has been visited; the
occupiers of better class premises rarely require, or desire, an
official visit from the Officers of the Local Authority.
