noticed that the members of the Nursing Staff have only one room
for meals, recreation and study, and that the lectures, delivered
in accordance with the requirements of the General NursingCouncil,
are given in this same room.
It will also be noticed that the members of the Domestic Staff
take their meals in the Kitchens and have no recreation or sitting
room.
The Night Staff Quarters are totally unsuited for the purpose
both from the point of view of accommodation (an Army hut) and
from the point of view of location.
The proposed enlargement of the Hospital will take the form
of a new block consisting of two separate wards of 10 and 14 beds,
each with additional separation rooms, kitchen, sanitary block,
etc. A covered verandah on the south-east side will permit of
patients obtaining the full benefit of fresh air and sunlight during
later periods of treatment.
A cubicle block consisting of 14 separate rooms with duty
rooms, and an operating theatre will also be erected.
The upper floor of the present scarlet fever " A " block, which
has been in use as a nurses' home, will be reconstructed as two
separate wards to provide 22 beds.
The matron and nursing staff will be housed in a new administrative
block and nurses' home to be erected after demolition of
the present " temporary " buildings. This administrative section
of the Hospital will contain recreation rooms, lecture room, and
accommodation for office staff, laboratory, etc.
Verandahs will also be provided for " A " and " B " blocks.
The buildings to be displaced are the present corrugated iron
administration block and two diphtheria wards adjoining, and the
building used as a store. The two wooden temporary blocks at
present used for the accommodation of night nurses and maids will
be retained for use in cases of emergency.
It is anticipated that the scheme will take approximately 18
months to complete owing to the difficulty of temporarily housing
staff and patients during the alterations.
