REPORT OF THE WORK DONE IN THE
AURAL CLINIC.
To the School Medical Officer,
Education Committee,
County Borough of East Ham.
17th January, 1930.
Sir,
I beg" to submit my report for the year ended December 31st,
1929. I had the honour to be appointed your Aural Specialist
in April, 1929, so that the following figures include work done
during the last quarter of my predecessor's term of office :—
Number of cases examined
Boys—282
Girls—276
558
Number of cases discharged 139
Number of visits made by patients to aural clinic 1 ,144
Number of visits made by patients to treatment
clinic 1,987
Number of cases of discharging ears 143
Number of cases of deafness 90
Number of cases showing improvement in
hearing 83
Number of cases of enlarged tonsils and adenoids 110
Number of applications of ionization 70
I have commenced the treatment of discharging ears by
ionization, which in suitable cases gives excellent results.
A small percentage of cases of discharging ears, however,
require mastoid operations, and I hope that facilities for these
to be done within the Borough will soon be afforded.
I should like to take this opportunity of thanking the Nursing
Staff for their skilful co-operation.
I have the honour to be, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
RONALD SAVEGE.
