Ringworm.
Six cases of Ringworm of the Scalp were referred to the
School X-ray Department for radical treatment.
Dental Treatment.
The School Dentist conducts a Clinic for the dental treatment
of young children and of expectant and nursing mothers referred
to his care from the Maternity and Child Welfare Department on
Wednesday afternoon of each week.
It is impossible to over-estimate the value and importance
of this work. After treatment of the teeth, the health of the
mother and of the toddler often improves in a remarkable way.
Cordial acknowledgment is due to the School Dentist and the
School Dental Nurse for their interest in, and kindness to, the
patients referred to them from the Maternity and Child Welfare
Clinics.
The number of attendances of young children thus referred
has risen from 258 in 1926 to 339 in 1927, but the number of
mothers was smaller, 94 last year as against 163 in the previous
year.
Details of the work done for dental cases referred from this
Department will be found in Mr. Neame's Annual Report on
p. 120.
Ophthalmic Treatment.
Since June, 1926, the School Ophthalmic Surgeon has conducted
a Clinic for the Eye treatment of children under the age
of five years referred to him from the Maternity and Child Welfare
Clinics, devoting half of Friday morning in each week to this
Service. A Health Visitor attends at the Clinic. Mr. Gimblett
has very kindly been willing to deal with special cases in young
children under exceptional circumstances at his Tuesday morning
School Clinic. The number of Infant Ophthalmic Sessions during
1927 was 38, and the attendances at these Sessions was 200.
This new Clinic is proving a very important adjunct to the
work of the Child Welfare Clinics. It is a great advantage to be
able to refer for immediate treatment cases of early squint, at a
stage when many such are curable, but would, if neglected,
