At the present time the hospital has 40 beds above the number for which
accommodation is provided, and this fact must be considered in conjunction
with the absence of an admission block, of a discharge block, of a convalescen t
home, and with the fact that much of the accommodation is of a temporary
nature and " ill-suited for the purpose."
(b) Accommodation for Staff.
In considering this matter it is unnecessary to emphasise the arduous
nature of the Nurses' duties, that the Nursing Staff are working in an infectious
atmosphere, and that, at the same time, considerable close study is imperative
in order that such nurses may attain a sufficient standard of proficiency to
satisfy the examiners of the General Nursing Council. The following return
has been furnished by the Matron in regard to the allocation of the Nursing
Staff :—
