Food Supply.
The markets and shops are regularly inspected. Two Inspectors
are on special duty during busy market hours. The
food is usually good, but 10 consignments were, last year, condemned
as being unwholesome.
Bakehouses.
There are 44 bakehouses in the Borough, 8 being underground.
The others are of modern structure and well-maintained.
67 inspections were made and limewashing and cleansing
carried out in accordance with the Regulations.
Sale of Food and Drugs Act.
387 samples of food and drugs were taken (including 233
milks) and submitted to the Public Analyst. Of these, 385 were
reported to be genuine and 1 milk sample deficient in fat. No
case of excess of sediment in milk occurred. 1 sample of cream
was found to contain '3 per cent, boric acid.
