Annual Report of the Chief Sanitary,Food
and Shops Inspector.
To His Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen and Councillors of the
County Borough of East Ham.
Mr. Mayor, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit to you my thirty-second (and
which is my last) Annual Report of the work performed by the
Sanitary Inspectors for the year 1927.
The number of primary inspections made was 7,107. These
included visits to premises where infectious disease had occurred,
house-to-house inspections, visits to premises upon complaint of
nuisance, inspection of markets, slaughterhouses, bakehouses,
eating houses, dairies, workshops, etc.
This being the last official report it is my privilege to present,
owing to my having reached the age when it is considered that
rest from labour is desirable, there is no alternative but to accept
the inevitable, although with many regrets and much gratitude
for the provision graciously provided under the Superannuation
Act.
I desire to place on record my appreciation of the kindness
received from members of the Council and colleagues during my
34 years in the Public Health Service.
It has been my pleasure to serve under three Medical Officers
of Health, and in a small degree help to fashion the Public Health
Department. The population has increased from 40,000 to 150,000
and the number of houses from about 7,000 to 29,000 during my
term of office.
