Mentally Defective Children.
During- the year 1927, the number of cases examined, for
purposes of the Mental Deficiency Act of 1913, was 93 (57 in 1926).
Of these 51 were classified as mentally deficient, and 11 as dull
and backward, recommendations being' made as shown in the following
table :—

Recommended for Special School 41
A reference to Table III will show that out of 120 children
who have been certified as mentally defective but educable in a
special school, 7 (14 in 1926) are having no education, 5 cases
are attending the ordinary elementary schools (10 in 1926), and 104
have been satisfactorily placed.
18 NURSERY SCHOOLS.
There are at present no Nursery Schools in East Ham.
19. SECONDARY SCHOOLS.
There is only one secondary school in East Ham, and tables
relating to the work carried out in connection with this school are
appended.
