Boys.Girls.Total.
Pulmonary Tuberculosis71118
Other forms of Tuberculosis11718

(e) Skin Disease and (f) External Eye Disease.
The number of these cases remains high. At routine medical
inspection during the year 1,025 children were found to be suffering
from skin affections (as compared with 964 in the year 1925).
Cases of external eye disease also continue to show a high incidence,
264 in the year 1926 and 129 in the year 1925). It is
doubtful whether an appreciable reduction in the number of such
cases is possible without the elimination of overcrowding in many
of the houses and the provision of a properly equipped Clinic for
the treatment of skin disease. (See report of Ophthalmic Surgeon
on p. 90.)
(g) Vision.
Only children with marked visual defect have been referred
for treatment and these, including cases of strabismus, numbered
790. In addition there were 206 children in whom there was
evidence of a lesser degree of visual defect and these are being
kept under observation. (See report of Ophthalmic Surgeon on
p. 90.)
(h) Ear Disease and Hearing.
0.7 per cent. of the children examined were found to be
suffering from otitis media, as compared with 1.3 per cent. in
1925. The percentage of deaf children was 0.9, the corresponding
number for last year being 0.7.
(i) Dental Defects.
(See report of Dental Surgeon on p. 94.)
