The training centre for imbecile children (excluded from
special school) and older girls at St. Michael's Institute, Manor
Park, has been held for 132 sessions. There are 21 on register
and the average attendance is 11.
The Council pays the Association for two guides to bring the
children to centres.
Mental Hygiene.
The Council allowed the Association a stall for handicrafts
at the East Ham Health Week celebration. Brentwood Mental
Hospital furnished exhibits as well as the Association's boys' class
and the children's centre. A number of orders for rugs and stools
was obtained at the stall and some propaganda was done.
Dr. Doris Odium, National Council of Mental Hygiene, spoke
one evening on the need for local clinics for advice and treatment
of early mental disorder.

Case Work.

The following is an analysis of case work during the year ended 31st December, 1926 :—

Sent to Institution under Order chargeable to the Borough Council
Placed under an Order of Guardianship1
Placed under statutory supervision in their own homes12
Removed to a place of safety pending the presentation of a petition2
Referred by the Association to the Local Authority for action8

At the close of the year there were :—
49 mental defectives under Order in certified Institutions.
4 of whom were on long leave of absence either with
their own relatives or with foster-parents.
9 were under Order of Guardianship with their own
relatives.
53 were under statutory supervision in their own homes.
64 were under voluntary care.
1 was on the waiting list for admission to Institution.
