Infectious Diseases.
In all cases of infectious disease notified, the Inspector at
once visits the premises, the sanitary arrangements and general
condition of the houses are examined and, where necessary, sanitary
notices are served upon persons responsible. If the case is
nursed at home, directions are given as to isolation and prevention
of spread of the disease.
A report of every case is prepared by the Inspector for the
Medical Officer of Health. The infected part of the house is disinfected
at the termination of the case.
The Borough Librarian is notified of all infected premises
and books from infected houses are returnable direct to the Public
Health Department and disinfected before return to circulation.
Factories, Workshops and Outworkers' Premises.
There are 191 factories and workshops in the Borough, including
bakehouses and laundries. During the year 456 inspections
have been made, of which 132 were to homes of outworkers.
In comparing these figures with previous reports it will be observed
that there is a considerable decrease in the number of inspections
made at outworkers' premises—in consequence of a less
number of persons obtaining goods to be worked upon at home.
H.M. Inspector of Factories has been informed of any
irregularities coming within his province, and we have been informed
by him of 13 nuisances which required abatement.
