MATERNITY AND CHILD WELFARE CENTRE REPORT.
The work of the Maternity and Child Welfare Centre is carried
on under the provisions of the Maternity and Child Welfare Act,
1918.
There were two changes on the staff during the
Dorothy M. Gowers resigned in May, and Dr. ???mson
assumed duty in June. Miss Cubberley, one or the Health
Visitors, left the staff in the early Summer, and Miss Redcliffe was
appointed to fill the vacancy.
The continuing vacancy on the staff of Health Visitors, referred
to in previous reports, has not yet been dealt with ; and consequently
the visiting of children at the ages between two and five
years has not been so systematic as one would desire.
The present staff consists of the Assistant Medical Officer in
charge, five Health Visitors, and a Clerk.
Infant Welfare Clinics.
Clinics are held as follows :—
White House, Plashet Grove, on
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, at 2 p.m.
St. John's Church Hall, North Woolwich, on
Tuesday, at 2.30 p.m.
Wesleyan Church Hall, Manor Park, on
Tuesday, at 2 p.m.
There is urgent need of another Clinic near the south-west
boundary of the Borough, as the distances to the present Clinics
are far too great for many mothers in that area.
Unfortunately at four of the Clinics the Medical Officer is only
in attendance at alternate sessions. This is on account of the fact
that the Medical Officer is also Assistant Tuberculosis Officer, and
because two of the Clinics are held on the same day.
Attendances at Infant Welfare Clinics, 1925.
Number of Clinics held during the year 300
Number of individual children who attended the Clinics 2,477
Total number of attendances 13,347
