REPORT UPON THE WORK OF THE BOROUGH HOSPITAL.
The year 1925 has witnessed the occurrence of a fairly large
increase in the number of cases of acute infectious disease treated
at the Borough Hospital; the patients admitted during the year
totalled 442 as compared with 304 in the year 1924.

The following table indicates the number of patients admitted for each disease and the number discharged, or who have died, in the year 1925:—

Scarlet Fever.
Excluding the 22 patients remaining in the hospital at the
end of the year 1925, there were 174 completed cases of this disease
treated; of these 3 died, giving a death rate of 1.7 per cent., as
compared with a rate of 0.7 per cent. for the previous year. In
each of the fatal cases a serious complication was present; one
was admitted from Queen Mary's Hospital, where he had been
under treatment for acute Bronchitis and subsequently developed
Broncho-pneumonia. In another case Scarlet Fever was complicated
by severe Diphtheria infection, whilst the third child
developed Meningitis. The chief complications which occurred in
the 229 cases under treatment during the year were as follows:—
