10,486 nuisances, caused principally by sanitary defects, were
discovered and dealt with by the Inspectors. (These are fullydetailed
on inset opposite page 143.) Of these nuisances, 5.045
were detected in routine work, and 5,081 by house-to-house
inspection.
To secure their abatement, Notices were served as follows:—

2,412 complaints were received—1,059 written and 1,353
verbal.

A frequent request is to "get out" a sub-tenant, or to quieten a crowing cockerel.
