UNSOUND FOOD.
The markets have been regularly inspected, and in five
instances unsound food was discovered and destroyed. On four
other occasions important seizures were effected, legal proceedings
instituted and heavy penalties imposed.
In one instance the seizure comprised a live cow, which was
emaciated and which proved to be extremely diseased with
Tuberculosis. The carcase was condemned. The Stipendiary
Magistrate convicted, an appeal was made, and the case went to
Quarter Sessions, where the conviction was upheld.
The other three seizures were important, one being the dead
carcase of a pig seized from a cart outside a Butcher's shop,
another seizure being a van-load of meat in transit, and the third
a carcase of a cow deposited in a shed adjoining a slaughterhouse.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACT.
Upon becoming a County Borough in April, the work of
taking samples of food and drugs commenced, and from that date
until the end of the year 410 samples were procured, of which 31
proved to be adulterated, being equal to 7.5 per cent.

TRADE REFUSE, 1915.

During the year 13,318 loads of House and Trade Refuse have been collected and deposited at the Council's Destructor, as compared with 13,414 loads for the year 1914.
