To His Worship the Mayor, the Aldermen, and Councillors
of the County Borough of East Ham.
Gentlemen,
I beg to present the Annual Report on the state of the Public
Health and the record of sanitary work carried out during the
year 1915.
The Report to the Education Committee is also included,
together with an account of the work done in connection with the
Medical Inspection of School Children and School Clinic.
In the interests of economy, owing to the war, the Report is
condensed as much as possible, but from the facts given it will be
seen that the health of the Borough is still in a very satisfactory
position in regard to its mortality statistics, the death-rate being
11.7 and Infantile Mortality 79 per 1,000 births.
Besides my other varied duties, during the rush of recruits at
the end of the year I assisted in their examination and also acted
as Medical Officer to the different Battalions formed in the
Borough until they were drafted elsewhere.
I again wish to express my thanks to my staff for the support
extended to me.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
W. BENTON,
Medical Officer of Health.
Town Hall, East Ham.
March, 1916.
