In July, authorisation was received from the Department of Health
and Social Security for vaccination against rubella to be offered to all
girls between their 11th and 14th birthdays, priority being given initially
to girls in their 14th year, the purpose of the campaign being to ensure that
girls are olfered protection against rubella before child-bearing age
because of the known association between the development of foetal
abnormalities and rubella infection in pregnancy.
Management of vaccination and immunisation procedures by
computer was introduced during 1967 and continued to work well during
the year.
The following tables show the numbers of children under sixteen who
completed vaccination or immunisation during 1970. The figures compare
favourably with those for 1969.
