The gas consumed in the Clock Tower of the Town Hall not being separated from the
consumption of the whole of the Offices and Council Chamber, an additional meter has been
fixed upon the supply to the Tower, so as to determine the amount consumed in lighting the
Clock ; an automatic arrangement for raising and lowering the supply has also been fixed,
and one of the dials, as an experiment, has been fitted with reflecting cones, which is a
great improvement; with only two burners alight as against four in each of the other dials
the saving of gas is probably 30 per cent., the burners being larger than the original ones.
