Previous to the 29th September, 1897, the contract for the barging away of the

This amount showing a decrease of £198 6s. 5d., as against the cost of the same work
for the previous year.
The machine-broom has been constantly at work and was out 211 days at a cost for
horse hire and re-fills of £98 10s. 4d. which, when added to the cost of the manual labour,
shows a saving of £20, or 75 per cent, of the initial cost of the machine.
