MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH.
I have the honour to submit the health statistics for the year
1896.
The number of deaths registered in the Parish of St. Mary,
Newington, during the year of 53 weeks, was 1886, and the number
of births 4276.
The population of the parish was estimated at the middle of the year to be 121,191.

The registered deaths were 357 less, and the registered births 42
more than those of last year.
Of the 1886 deaths, 42 died in the Newington Workhouse,
Westmoreland Road, in this parish. They comprised 25 belonging
to Newington, and 17 to other parishes of the St. Saviour's Union.
