Population
The estimated mid-year population for the Borough was 210,250,
which was a substantial rise in the population as compared with 1963
The natural increase in population—excess of births over deaths—was
1,405, and the number of occupied houses and flats rose by 660 to 66,763.

The total number of births registered during the year was 3,351
(1,758 male and 1,593 female). 203 of these births were illegitimate
giving a percentage of total births of 6.11 as compared with a percentage
of 5.2 for 1963.

2,404 birth notifications (2,367 live and 37 still) were transferred
from other districts, being mostly births occurring to Harrow mothers
in hospitals in Middlesex or in London. The birth rate was 15.9 per
1000 population, which when corrected by the application of the
Registrar General's area comparability factor, gives a birth rate of 16.2
as compared with the birth rate of 18.4 per 1,000 population for
England and Wales.
