Population
The mid-year population of the district was 217,900, a decrease of
1,100 on the mid-year population for 1952. The natural increase in
population, i.e., the excess of births over deaths during the year, was 796.
This population figure is the home population and includes members of
the Armed Forces stationed in the district.
