The watercourses of the district were also dealt with and regular
visits were made to the Council's refuse tips and salvage depot. It was
necessary to carry out treatment along the banks of the River Pinn and
to several other watercourses, but no treatment was found necessary at the
Salvage Depot or the Council's refuse tips.
Wasps.
An unusually large number of requests for assistance were received
from householders and others in the district about wasps. 239 nests,
many of which were in recreation grounds or in banks along the highways
were dealt with. Others were removed from coal bunkers, roof spaces
and several from under floors of living rooms and one from the space
between the ceiling of one room and the floor of the room above.
