Total number of children under five years of age who attended
at the Centres during the year and who at the end of the year
were:—
(1) Under one year of age 2,445
(2) Over one year of age 6,133
The percentage of total notified births represented by the
number of children under one year of age who attended for the
first time was 94. The percentage of total registered births was 88.
TODDLERS.
Fortnightly sessions were first started during the year at the
Baptist Church Hall, Streatfield Road, Kenton, and at the
Methodist Church Hall, Walton Avenue, South Harrow. Toddlers'
clinics are proving very popular. There is no difficulty in compiling
lists of those anxious to use the clinics, and in general they attend
very regularly.
TREATMENT.
The treatment services include the following:—Dental treatment,
operative treatment of tonsils and adenoids, ultra-violet ray
therapy, correction of visual defects, orthopædic treatment and
the treatment of minor ailments.
In addition, arrangements are made for the admission of
suitable cases to convalescent homes and for home nursing.
The following particulars show the extent to which the
facilities for treatment are used.
Dental treatment:—321 children under five years of age, 353
expectant and 61 nursing mothers made 996 attendances
for treatment; 40 mothers were fitted with dentures, and
eight dentures were repaired.
Physio-therapeutic clinic:—181 new cases were referred to
the clinic. The attendances at the consultant orthopaedic
clinic numbered 105, and 405 patients were seen by the
consultant physiotherapist. 1,050 attendances were made
for massage and exercises, and 2,860 for electro-therapy.
Correction of visual defects:—87 children were treated by
arrangement with the Middlesex County Council, most of
these being recommended to obtain glasses. Provision is
made by which children wearing glasses are re-tested
periodically.
Operative treatment of tonsils and adenoids:—11 children
were treated at the Harrow and Wealdstone Hospital for
this condition under the provisions of the agreement.
Convalescent homes:—15 children and two mothers were
admitted to convalescent homes.
Home nursing:—Responsibility was accepted for the payment
of the fees for the treatment of 18 patients.
