Included in this last group are five cases where the still-birth
was one of twins.
INFANT MORTALITY.
126 (74 male and 52 female) infants died under one year of
age. The infant mortality rate, by which is expressed the number
of deaths among infants under one year of age per 1,000 born was
therefore 38.3, compared with the figure of 53 for the country as a
whole, 57 for the Great Towns, 57 for London, and local rates of
42.1, 44.9 and 35.5 for the years 1935, 1936 and 1937.

occurred, with the corresponding figures for England and Wales
for the year 1937 for comparison:—
