PROVISION OF NEW HOSPITAL.

At their meeting on May 31st the Council agreed that the accommodation to be provided at the hospital should comprise:— Patients' Blocks:—

Small operating theatre unit;
House for resident medical officer ;
Administrative building, comprising quarters for matron and
resident assistant medical officer, lecture room, office
for matron, clerk's office, medical officer's office, dispensary,
kitchen and its offices, dining rooms for nurses and
domestics, bedrooms for 25 domestics;
Staff home, including nurses' and sisters' recreation room and
a study, bedrooms for 40 sisters and nurses; provision to
be made for eventual extension of administrative building
and staff home to accommodate a 50 per cent. increase in
staff ;
Four three-bedroom non-parlour cottages, including porter's
cottage;
Laundry; disinfector; boiler-house; garage : and mortuary.
CLINICAL ASPECTS.
Diphtheria.
Admissions:—
Number admitted on a diagnosis of diphtheria 70
Number of cases clinically diphtheria 52
Number of carriers 5
In 13 cases the diagnosis of diphtheria was not confirmed, the
revised diagnosis in seven being acute tonsillitis, in two acute
bronchitis, and in one each broncho-pneumonia, laryngitis
stridula and rhinitis.
