In addition to these cases there were 79 others who were
admitted to the isolation hospitals of other authorities who, had
suitable accommodation been available, would have been admitted
to the local hospitals.
The highest number of local patients under treatment during
the year in isolation hospitals (either local or those of other
authorities) was 69. The highest number of patients suffering from
scarlet fever only was 61, from diphtheria only was 14; the
corresponding minimal figures were 17, 13 and 3. The average
duration of stay of all patients was 42.5 days; for scarlet fever
patients, 40.8; and for diphtheria cases 50.3 days.
