DIPHTHERIA.
Incidence.
42 notifications of diphtheria were received during the year,
the diagnosis, however, being revised in 12 of the cases to some
other condition, of which the most common was tonsillitis. Of
the 30 cases, five contracted the infection while they were inpatients
at London hospitals. This is the seventh consecutive year
a low incidence of this disease has prevailed, the rate per 1,000
population being only 0.22 as compared with the figure of 1.39 for
the country as a whole.
There were no secondary or return cases.
