Smoke Abatement.
There is comparatively little nuisance from smoke in this
district. In the few instances where nuisances were apparent
or where advice had been sought the trouble was usually rectified
following advice being given to the stoker of the furnace.
23 observations were carried out, the summary of the results
being that during 620 minutes there were only 11½ minutes of
dense smoke and 81 minutes of moderate smoke.
Offensive Trades.
Fried Fish Shops.
There are 25 fried fish shops in the district, to which a total of
287 visits were paid during the year. Most of these businesses are
carried on in up-to-date premises and few complaints are received.
One application for the establishment of a fried fish shop was
received during the year, which was acceded to.
Shops Acts, 1912-1934.
The duties of the Inspectors under the Shops Acts are carried
out by the Sanitary Inspectors. During the year 627 shops were
registered and 173 infringements of the laws relating to the closing
hours and other contraventions of the Acts were detected.
