11. Diseases of Integumentary System. —Two
deaths.
Class VII.—Deaths from Violence.
Eighty-four deaths, Including 28 under five years of age
(21 under one year), are distributed over the four Orders
comprised in this Class: 16 of them belong to the Brompton
sub-district.
1. Accident or Negligence.—Total deaths, 66, including
8 in Brompton, and 28 under five years of age: viz.,
from Fractures and Contusions, 29; Burn, Scald, 10; Poison, 3;
Drowning, 1; Suffocation, generally of infants "overlaid," 23,
including 21 under one year; these 23 deaths were registered
in the Town sub-district.
2. Homicide.—Manslaughter, one death; Murder, one
death.
3. Suicide.—Total deaths 16, including 8 in Brompton;
viz., by Cut, Stab, 5; Hanging, 1; Gun-shot Wounds, 6;
Drowning, 2; Poison, 1; and Otherwise, 1.
Class VIII.—Deaths from Ill-Defined and not
Specified Causes.
This Class includes the causes of 140 deaths; 113 under
five years of age, and 103 under one year; 121 and 19 in the
Town and Brompton sub-districts respectively. The causes
named are: Debility, Atrophy, Inanition, 109 deaths (all but two
under five years, and 98 under one year); Dropsy, 1; Mortification,
5; Abscess, 3; and Hemorrhage, 2. Sudden death
(cause not ascertained) 1. To "Causes not Specified or Illdefined"
19 deaths were ascribed.
It may be here stated, (the figures having been accidentally
omitted at page 11), that the death-rate per 1,000 persons
living, at different periods of life, was as follows;—
