ments of your Vestry. I cannot, however, suggest any
further procedure to secure due and immediate compliance
with such requirements, 'so as to expedite as far as possible
the carrying out of needed sanitary works in the
Parish,' unless it be a systematic application to the Court
for enforcement of the prescribed penalties, against the
worst defaulters—pour encourager les autres."
It may be added that some 3,030 "written intimations,"
and 1,220 statutory notices, were served in the year 1892.
The Final Notice was issued in 157 cases, but it was found
necessary to take out summonses in seventeen cases only,
compared with 148, 159, and 116 in the preceding three years
respectively.
THE WORK OF THE SANITARY INSPECTORS.
Tables VI. and VIA. (Appendix), contain a summary of
the work of the Sanitary Inspectors during the year ended
March 25th, 1893. The work of the Inspectors is under the
supervision of the Works and Sanitary Committee, upon
which your Vestry have conferred, by resolution, power to
carry out the provisions of the Public Health (London) Act,
1891; the Housing of the Working Classes Act, 1890; and
the Factory and Workshop Act, 1891. The staff having
been increased by the addition of two Inspectors, it became
necessary to re-arrange the Sanitary districts, and with the
approval of the Committee the Parish has been mapped out
as follows:— All that portion of the Northern Division of the
Borough of Kensington, to the north of the City and Hammersmith
Railway, now constitutes the north District. The
remainder of the Northern Division constitutes the northeast
and the north-west Districts; Ladbroke Grove and
part of Ladbroke Grove Road being the dividing line. The
Central District is, as before, that portion of the Southern
Division of the Borough which lies between the centre of High
Street, Notting Hill, and Uxbridge Road, and the centre of
