The figures in the above Table have been compiled from the Quarterly Returns of the Asylums Board. The totals will probably be found to vary slightly from those in the as yet unpublished Annual Report of the Statistical Committee. In addition to the cases in the Table, 12 cases of typhus were admitted: 3 each from Holborn and Kensington; 2 fom St. Olave, Southwark; and one each from the City, Fulham, Hackney, and Shoreditch. At the close of the year there were remaining 3,587 cases; viz., small-pox 39, scarlet fever 3,168, diphtheria 288, enteric fever 87, and "other diseases" 5.
