About 150 inquests are held in the Parish annually, most of
which could be conveniently held at the Vestry Hall. But none
of them are so held, the Coroner protesting his inability to comply
with the requirement of the Churchwardens for application for the
room, prior to the issue of notices to jurymen, witnesses, etc. It
is, nevertheless, impossible to resist the conviction that if the
Coroner and those who have the control of the building were
disposed to pull together, the desire of your Vestry and, I may
say, of the parishioners generally, that inquests should be held
at the Vestry Hall, would soon be realised.
DISINFECTION.
During the year ended March 25th, 1886, a large number of
infected articles, clothing, bedding, etc., were satisfactorily disinfected
by the contractor at the cost of your Vestry, the owners
being too poor to bear the expense. The weight of the articles
was more than 10½ tons : their number 6,490, and the cost of
the process £188. One hundred and seventy-two rooms in 129
houses were disinfected with sulphurous acid by your Vestry's
officer, no charge being made in the majority of instances.
Many rooms were disinfected by the contractor, as well as
numerous parcels of clothing, bedding, etc., at the cost of the
owners.
