In 255 instances it was necessary to serve Statutory Notices
to ensure that the necessary work was carried out.
OVERCROWDING
Following requests from housing applicants or from the Housing
Department, 84 inspections were made during the year in connection
with housing conditions.
Ten families were found to occupy accommodation that was
statutorily overcrowded, and details of these families were reported
to the Housing Department.
It is the responsibility of the Council to supply in writing
a statement showing the permitted number in respect of any dwelling,
and in this respect 442 premises were visited and measured following
requests from either landlords or tenants.
SLUM CLEARANCE AREAS
Further progress was made by the Council during 1962 in its
Slum Clearance work, particularly in the St. Mary's and Glyndon
Redevelopment Areas.
