Other Legal Proceedings.—In addition to the legal proceedings included in
the above Table, proceedings were instituted against a retail purveyor of milk for
filling bottles with milk other than on registered premises. The case was dismissed,
under the Probation of Offenders Act.
Nutrition.—Dissemination of knowledge and instruction on matters affecting
nutrition is part of the Council's general scheme of health propaganda, q.v.
As part of the Council's scheme for Health Propaganda, cookery demonstration
classes are held at the Tuberculosis Dispensary for the instruction of the wives
and mothers of the tuberculous in the buying and cooking of simple, cheap and
nutritious articles of food and the preparation of suitable dishes. This is fully reported
on in the section dealing with Health Propaganda.
Chemical and Bacteriological Examination of Food.— The Laboratories
at which work is carried out, and the nature of the work done is reported on fully
in that Section of the Report which deals generally with the provision of health
services in the Borough.
Food Poisoning.—The Public Health (London) Act, 1936, requires every medical
practitioner in London to notify to the Medical Officer of Health every person whom
he suspects or finds to be suffering from food poisoning. In his certificate he must
state the name, age and sex of the person, the full postal address, and particulars
of the food poisoning from which the person is suffering or suspected to be suffering.
The total number of notifications received was 36. The age and sex distribution
of the cases notified is shown in the following Table No. 71.
