xiv. Adoptive Acts, By-Laws and Regulations Relating To Public Health
in Force in the District.
Adoptive Acts.— The Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts, 1899-1923, have been
adopted by the Council. During the year, the Borough Treasurer tells me, the
Council made 164 advances to purchasers of houses in accordance with the provisions
of these Acts.
By-Laws and Regulations.— A complete list of the various By-laws and Regulations
in force in the Borough was given in the Annual Report for 1934. One additional
one, dealing with the fouling of public footways by dogs, came into force during 1935.
xv. School Medical Service (London County Council).
Through the courtesy of Sir Frederick Menzies, the School Medical Officer, I
am able to give the following particulars of the routine medical examination of
elementary school children in Woolwich in 1937.
The percentage of entrant boys requiring treatment for some defect or other
was 41.6, and of girls, 38.8; the corresponding figures for London being 48.1 per
cent., and 48.6 per cent. Excluding nutrition and dental defects, the percentage of
entrant boys requiring treatment was 14.6, and girls, 13.9; the corresponding
figures for London being 14.8 and 13.9
