If the rates in St. Mary's, River and St. George's Wards and in Woolwich
parish are compared with those of previous years, it must be borne in mind that
from 1915 to 1931, these rates were calculated on the civilian population and not
on the total population.
Births.
During the year 2,414 births were registered in the Borough, 1,254 being males
and 1,160 females. Corrected by outward (307 males and 321 females) and inward
(163 males and 176 females) transfers, these numbers become 2,125, 1,110 and 1,015
respectively.
The birth-rate was 14.2, compared with 13.8 in 1936 and 14.0 in 1935.
