If the rates in St. Mary's, River and St. George's Wards and in Woolwich parish
are compared with those of previous years, it must be borne in mind that from 1915
to 1931, these rates were calculated on the civilian population and not on the total
population.
Births.
During the year 2,362 births were registered in the Borough, 1,257 being males
and 1,105 females. Corrected by outward (327 males and 297 females) and inward
(158 males and 121 females) transfers, these numbers become 2,017, 1,088 and 929
respectively.
The birth-rate was 13.8 compared with 14.0 in 1935 and 13.7 in 1934.
